Every week I sit down for a 1-2-1 with a fellow member of BNI North Bay Nipissing Network. One meeting, two people, one honest conversation about their business. Over the years those coffees have introduced me to some of the hardest working, most generous business owners in our region.

I am Paul Meyers, founder of PM Consulting Inc. here in North Bay. I build marketing systems for local businesses, but the best part of the work has always been the people. This page is my thank-you to every member who gave me their time, one meeting at a time.

Had a BNI North Bay Nipissing Network one-to-one this morning with Santhosh Joseph, who joined me from the other side of the world. Santhosh has been building software since 2017. Mobile apps, web apps, and ERP systems for small and mid-size businesses. He walked me through an app his team built for a state government where a crew drives a road, taps the screen at every bridge, junction and approach, and sends that data back so the province can actually plan its transportation system. Real problem, real tool, real result. We do very different work. I look after contractors and home service pros here in North Bay. He builds custom software half a planet away. No referral changed hands today, and neither of us expected one. That is not what a one-to-one is for. Six years in BNI has taught me the same lesson over and over: take off the bib and put on the apron. Show up, give first, get to know the person. The business follows. Good to meet you, Santhosh.

Spent an hour with Joel Arndt this morning at his office here in North Bay, and I want you to know who he is. Joel is a mortgage agent with Sherwood Mortgage Group. Renewals, purchases, refinances. Had a 1-2-1 with Lori Johnston today and I want to tell you what she actually does for a living. Lori owns Bark Busters for Sudbury and North Bay. Certified behaviour therapist and trainer. Here is the part most people miss: she does not train your dog. She trains you. That distinction is the whole thing. She comes to your home, because your dog's problems happen in your home, not in a church basement on a Tuesday. Aggression. Separation anxiety. The barking that has your neighbours giving you a look. The leash walks that stopped being walks. Most families see a change inside the first session, and it runs about two to two and a half hours. Then she stays. Lifetime support. Not a package, not a punch card. If something comes up in year three, she is still your trainer. She got here through rescue. Decades of it. Second 1-2-1 with Bernadette Lindsay from Nipissing Serenity Hospice, and I want to tell you what her week actually looks like. Four events last week. Four this week. The hospice food truck. A collection table at Sobey's and FreshCo. A golf tournament Friday where she speaks at dinner and hands over a cheque. And a trivia night Wednesday that she is driving out to set up herself. Six years she has been doing this. The gardens, the gazebo, the patio, the deck. Every one of them traces back to Bernadette turning community generosity into a peaceful place for a family living through the hardest week of their life. Hospice care in this city does not run on goodwill. It runs on a hundred small fundraisers strung together by people who care enough to keep showing up. Here is the one you can help with right now. He took over the business a year and a half ago, and he's been building it steadily ever since. In that time, he's taken their Google reviews from 6 to 60. That tells you what you need to know about the work. One thing contractors should know about him: he does full vehicle wraps, lawn signs and everything in between. Had a 1-2-1 with Priya Nair this morning and I have not enjoyed a business conversation this much in a while. Priya owns Timeless Notions. Branded products, gifts and signs. Here is what most people do not realize about her. She makes it. Herself. Her garage is a full workshop. Laser cutter, UV printer, the works. Ninety percent of what leaves her shop was cut, printed and assembled by her own hands. That sign you can see behind her on this call? She made that too. In an industry where almost everyone is forwarding your logo to a warehouse and marking it up, this is rare. I would know. I spent ten years in promotional products a long time ago, back when we ran engraving machines and made rubber stamps out of a mall kiosk here in North Bay. I know what this work actually takes. Two things stood out. First, no minimum orders on most of what she does. If you are a small business that wants three mugs with your logo for three clients who matter, she will make you three. The big catalogue companies will tell you fifty and hang up. Second, she sits down with you first. No catalogue, no order form, no sales associate. She learns your business and the occasion, then builds something for it. Her words: "Every time I look at a picture, I know who this person is and why I created this." She started this in 2014 cutting 2x4s with a hand saw to spell out people's names. Twelve years later she is producing the award pieces for entire BNI regions. One idea I am stealing for my own clients: she makes a branded keychain with a tap-and-QR chip in it. Your customer taps it and your Google review page opens. For a contractor walking out of a house where the furnace is finally working and the homeowner is happy, that is the perfect moment to ask. Had a great one-to-one this week with Bernadette from Nipissing Serenity Hospice, and I walked away genuinely inspired. Bernadette is the person behind the fundraising at the hospice. This morning, I did a BNI North Bay Nipissing Network - Chapter in North Bay one-to-one with Bernadette Lindsay from Nipissing Serenity Hospice / La Maison Sérénité du Nipissing. We started talking about referrals. I left with something different on my mind. Here is what most people in our community do not know. The Ministry of Health funds the clinical side of hospice care through OHIP. If you become palliative and choose to come to the hospice, your medical care is covered. But the hydro bill is not. The groceries are not. The deck they have been raising money to build for two years is not. The Caregivers Kits that Bernadette quietly distributes to family members caring for dying loved ones are not. All of that runs on community donations. It runs on a Golf Tournament on June 12. It runs on a Hike for Hospice in October. It runs on dozens of small donors who learned about the funding gap and stepped in. Bernadette herself runs a meaningful share of the operation by being the kind of leader who shows up everywhere, asks for nothing personal, and quietly carries one of the most important community institutions in North Bay. He's creating 3D walkthrough renderings of landscaping projects before a single shovel hits the ground. His clients can actually see what their yard is going to look like before they commit. That's a game changer. He's also diving headfirst into learning his own marketing. Running his own ads, testing different creative, figuring out what works. Most business owners outsource that stuff without understanding it first. Reggie wants to understand it, then scale it. That's the right order. On top of landscaping, he runs Gateway Snow with a longer season than most. April 15th cutoff and typically starts up sooner. His clients don't have to worry about late storms or early snow.
